1

Step 1

Leave the car park on the left of the cooperative. A communal panel indicates the direction of the Fort de Salses which must be followed. Cross under the railway line through the tunnel. Turn right at the exit: you will then see the fort of Salses-le-Château rise majestically.
2

Step 2

Continue this path along the railway line on the right. Gradually, the path deviates from the railway line, follow it to the passage under the A9 motorway
3

Step 3

Pass under the A9 and take the 1st path on the right which goes straight between the verges in the direction of the hill where the "Door" stands. Continue towards the Porte des Pays Catalans, a monument installed in 2010 near the border between the kingdoms of Aragon and France (abolished in 1959 with the Treaty of the Pyrenees). You will pass through orchards and climb little by little.

Step 4

You arrive at the "Porta dels Països Catalans", it symbolizes the visitor's entry into the Catalan Country, open to the horizon, like a monumental link between the Catalan and Languedoc cultures (this giant arch is actually intended to materialize the entrance of four doors, in reference to the four bars of the Catalan shield). The return is by the same route.

Be careful, the fire risk is often high, especially in summer, and can lead to flower bed closures. Find out before you go consulting the fire risk map for outdoor activities.
Fires strictly prohibited. Do not smoke and never throw cigarette butts in nature. Fires are numerous and catastrophic in our region. In the event of a fire or accident: give alert 18 or 112 from a cell phone.
Protect yourself from the sun and take enough water with you.
Avoid picking flowers and plants. Take all your trash. Close fences and keep dogs on a leash in pasture areas, villages and protected areas.

Mountain bike routes: the routes are often shared with hikers or other users (cars, tractors, etc.). Be careful and always anticipate that a pedestrian may be present around a bend to have time to brake if necessary. Pedestrians have priority in principle, slow down at crossings or stop if the configuration of the terrain requires you to do so.
Thank you and happy hiking!
