LA JASSE DE RIVIÈRE, MTB

At CASCASTEL-DES-CORBIERES

Itineray type : Mountain bike

Season : Spring

Descriptif détaillé :

The trail
Leaving the car park, turn left on the D106 towards Albas and Coustouge. To your right, the Berre stream follows the road for about 400 m. After the bridge over the Berre, to your left, you see the Moulineau (renovated mill). Ride as close as you can along the stream. At about 750 m from the point of departure, turn right on a small tarred road going uphill (1) MTB. This crosses between Taurenne and Carrabous, both their slopes at first overgrown with the low garrigue vegetation, alongside the ravine of the Rivière stream. With the Jasse de Rivière hamlet in sight, you’ll notice a number of hillside vineyards to your left. Leave the junction with the pedestrian hike and its artificial ford (2) MTB to your right and continue straight ahead, eastward bound.
A couple of uphill bends will have you shift to the lowest gear till you reach the part of the track in common with the hiking trail. The hiking trail you passed below continues to your right. Ride straight ahead till you reach a crossroads of several tracks. This spot is called Vente Farine, an extremely windswept site. We’ll now leave the hiking trail and, instead of turning left and taking the path passing in front of a renovated barn (northward bound), we turn right, at a place called Callong (3) MTB. The trail follows the ravine of the Cesse stream. This ravine runs into the Berre stream a bit further on. We can already distinguish its course and its junction with Durban below (panoramic view on the Château and the village of Durban).
The track is now crossed by several concrete passages (somewhat steep descent now and then).
At La Crémade, the track turns into a road (potholes). Lower still, at the crossroads (4) MTB, take the rightmost road: view on the wine cooperative and the banks of the Berre on your left. Cross the bridge over the Berre, turn right on the bank, then take the rue de l’Ancienne Poste, continue straight ahead towards the D106 and end your ride at the Community Centre.
