Descriptif détaillé :

Leave the village on the D323. Turn left and head towards the Combe de Coumasse by way of a path lined with laurustinus. On your way to the “Gimbouls” plateau, you’ll notice how the vegetation changes gradually: pine trees, oak trees, box trees, etc.
You’ll admire the magnificent view on the village and the surrounding massifs, the Pyrenees, the Alaric and the Montagne Noire.
The “Gimbouls Hole” is a doline (sinkhole): part of the surface layer literally collapsed into an underground cavity. This one is particularly impressive because of its evenness and its funnel-like shape. Be very careful and keep your children away from the spot, seeing as the hole itself is concealed beneath some really dense vegetation. Walk alongside the isolated vineyards. Then leave the main track and (1) to your right, go into a wood of holm oak trees, an ideal spot to have a cool break. This is a real heavenly place for those who love botany. You can discover pistachios, robinia, buckthorn, juniper trees, etc. A bit further on, a tad more tucked away, you’ll find sarsaparilla, rosemary, irises and Mediterranean tulips, in bloom in springtime. Coming out of the wood, you’ll reach a huge vineyard plot. Take the path going up, immediately on your left, and continue walking towards ‘la Courbatière’. Don’t leave this main track until (2) you’ll take the second path on your right.
Next, you’ll take a path overlooking the Courbatière gorges, a spectacular-looking canyon facing east. When the weather allows it, you can see all the way to ‘la Clape’ and the Mediterranean Sea.
The track goes on between the vineyards and then descends, to the right, amidst a copse of trees.
(3) Return to Jonquières on a steep but charming small path.
Then you’ll take a track to your left. You’ll walk past an ancient windmill and continue till you reach the village.
