A large area of Corbières is part of the new Corbières Fenouillèdes Regional Natural Park. In 2021, it joined the 56 French Regional Natural Parks.
Promotion of the natural and cultural heritage
The Corbières Fenouillèdes Regional Natural Park was created to enhance the cultural, natural and geological heritage of these vast rural areas.
Among the various actions carried out, the park teams propose a entertainment program allowing the discovery of this heritage: geology, fauna, flora ...
The park has also started a reflection around a application for the UNESCO Geopark label. A map showing 20 Geosites of tourist interest was created to facilitate their discovery.
The Natura 2000 network
Natura 2000 is a European network which aims to ensure the conservation and enhancement of natural sites of Community importance. Since January 2017, the park has become the host structure for 6 Natura 2000 sites in the Corbières-Fenouillèdes.
These sites make up the following areas:
- 4 Special Protection Zones (SPAs) designated for the conservation of birds: Hautes-Corbières, Corbières Orientales, Corbières Occidentales and Basses Corbières.
- 2 Special Conservation Areas (SACs) designated for the conservation of fauna (other than birds), flora and natural habitats: the Torgan valley and the Orbieu valley.
