SAINT-ANDRE-DE-ROQUELONGUE

1

Step 1

Go up the forest track for 100 m, then turn right between the cypresses and continue to the left by the path below. It runs along the pine forest, the vines and then the Caminade ravine.
2

Step 2

Leave the path, follow the vineyard on the left and enter the pine wood by a shaded path on the left. Bordered by large blocks of ocher and red sandstone, it crosses the Glass valley and climbs the wooded slope to the ridge.
3

Step 3

Take the track to the right (view to the west, on the perched hermitage). It remains on the crest and leads to an open area.
4

Step 4

Cross the area and climb the path that leads to the Saint-Jacques hermitage (also called Saint-Martin-de-la-Vernède; viewpoint on the peak of Nore, the Alaric and the cliffs of Montséret, on Mont Saint-Victor and Mont Tauch, on the Fontfroide massif; 15 min round trip). Start the descent (watch out for large boulders at the entrance to the hermitage!) And find the area. Take the path on the right (south-east). It goes down into the wood (pine trees) of La Vernède.
5

Step 5

At the bottom, take the track to the right, then the road to the right for 400 m, keeping to the right.
6

Step 6

Take the track on the right. It passes to the left of the wooded hill of Matta.
7

Step 7

At the crossroads, take the road to the right. After about 500 meters, turn right (you go around Matta hill). Join the Caminade stream, cross it at a ford. Take the outward path to return to the starting point.

Be careful, the fire risk is often high, especially in summer, and can lead to flower bed closures. Find out before you go consulting the fire risk map for outdoor activities.
Fires strictly prohibited. Do not smoke and never throw cigarette butts in nature. Fires are numerous and catastrophic in our region. In the event of a fire or accident: give alert 18 or 112 from a cell phone.
Protect yourself from the sun and take enough water with you.
Avoid picking flowers and plants. Take all your trash. Close fences and keep dogs on a leash in pasture areas, villages and protected areas.

Mountain bike routes: the routes are often shared with hikers or other users (cars, tractors, etc.). Be careful and always anticipate that a pedestrian may be present around a bend to have time to brake if necessary. Pedestrians have priority in principle, slow down at crossings or stop if the configuration of the terrain requires you to do so.
Thank you and happy hiking!

Nice walk, well marked with shaded areas. Say easy, but rather moderately easy, very stony.

Nickel! Perfect signposting, superb site (one would hope that the ruins of this beautiful hermitage will be saved). The ballad having been made on 02/05 it was a profusion of colors at the level of the flora and a festival at the level of the fauna, ocellated lizard, snake, water snake, frog, dragonflies, bees, etc .... and a few more wild asparagus. In short, a superb walk with our daughters. Thank you !

Very pleasant hike, in varied environments, pine forests and vineyards. The route is very well marked, the view from the hermitage is superb. Wear good shoes, the path is sometimes very rocky.

Very nice walk, very well signposted. Varied landscape, beautiful views without forgetting the hermitage.
