1

Step 1

Turn right towards the village. Turn left in the rue “de l'Ancienne Poste”, follow the “quai de la Berre”, cross the bridge over the Berre and continue opposite, straight on the “Chemin du Rec de la Coume”.
2

Step 2

At the first fork, take the path to the left which crosses the Coume stream on a cement ford. Go up the steep slope and at the intersection (about 125m from the ford), continue the track uphill. On the way up, we can contemplate on the left, towards the south, the village of Cascastel below, surrounded by small peaks. The path follows the ravine of Rec de la Coume and first crosses an area of low scrubland and hillside vines. It is bordered by almond trees and a few mimosas. Towards the top of the ravine, the vegetation becomes wooded, with holm oaks first and then deciduous trees. Going up, another point of view on Cascastel and other surrounding small peaks. Pine plantations replace holm oaks; here and there a few low walls, vestiges of terraces, bear witness to previous human occupation. A new point of view over the village of Villeneuve des Corbières, recognizable thanks to the monument housing the Virgin of Saint Raphine de la Récaoufa on the summit. The spartier broom abounds, boxwood and cypress complete the vegetation, offering variety in the vegetation cover. The track turns east and begins the descent: the row of mimosas on the left seems to outline a sort of hedge of honor for the hiker. Towards the north, a viewpoint over the hillside vineyards under the Serre de Ginoufre lets you guess the beginnings of the Albas syncline.
3

Step 3

At the next intersection, while the eye is drawn to the sheepfold located further north and to the right, the steps must be registered on the left on the common hiking and mountain biking route up to the fork.
4

Step 4

The walker will take the left track. The balcony route is also bordered by mimosas for a good part. After crossing a masonry ford of the Ravine de la Rivière stream, once again common portion of the hiking / mountain biking routes.
5

Step 5

Go down along the stream and join the D106. Take the road to the right for a few meters.
6

Step 6

Go down towards Berre, which you will cross on a ford (plots). Pass in front of the water mill (“al mouly naou”, renovated mill) and climb towards the Croix d'Albas, (a road cross) and a beautiful almond tree. Point of view on the village and the Virgin of Recaoufa. All you have to do is let yourself go quietly down in the middle of the vines, to find the car park. (!) After a rainy period, fording is impossible. Then take the D106 to the left to reach the village.

Be careful, the fire risk is often high, especially in summer, and can lead to flower bed closures. Find out before you go consulting the fire risk map for outdoor activities.
Fires strictly prohibited. Do not smoke and never throw cigarette butts in nature. Fires are numerous and catastrophic in our region. In the event of a fire or accident: give alert 18 or 112 from a cell phone.
Protect yourself from the sun and take enough water with you.
Avoid picking flowers and plants. Take all your trash. Close fences and keep dogs on a leash in pasture areas, villages and protected areas.

Mountain bike routes: the routes are often shared with hikers or other users (cars, tractors, etc.). Be careful and always anticipate that a pedestrian may be present around a bend to have time to brake if necessary. Pedestrians have priority in principle, slow down at crossings or stop if the configuration of the terrain requires you to do so.
Thank you and happy hiking!

Beautiful hike through the countryside past pine trees and grapevines. There was a hunting dog kennel near the end that was pretty depressing. Well marked and I didn't see another hiker the whole time.
