GR 36: This European trail (Switzerland-Spain) crosses the Aude from North to South. From the beech groves of the Montagne Noire: Pic de Nore, along the Canal du Midi, to the City of Carcassonne, then by the backbone of the Alaric, we reach Lagrasse and it is the crossing of the wild Corbières. Step 1

From the town hall, follow the Camin de la Bassa and go straight up to the left along a cobbled path. After the cemetery, go up towards the D 613; follow it to the right in the direction of Félines for 100 m. After the bridge, go down to the right and go straight on the bend. Cross the Bac du Four stream, turn left and find the D 613. Cross the bridge on the left.

Step 2

After the bridge, leave the road to the right. Ignore a path on the left, then continue straight on twice. In the bend, turn left. Cross the stream and go up to the left. Leave two paths on the left. The path winds up in the woods and leads to a track; take it to the left. Stay on the leftmost lane twice: the climb continues, overlooking the valley of the Saint-Jean stream. Reach a second junction: go up to the left, then go straight on to the Prat de Labat plateau (563 m).

Step 3

Take the track to the right, ignore a path to the right towards Tuchan, then fork to the left to cross the plateau covered with meadows where the sheep pass. Follow the main path ignoring the side paths. Go right to pass under the high voltage line. After crossing the undergrowth, reach the Col d'En Couloum.

Step 4

Continue on the track to the Col de la Croix de Pierre. Go down to the right. (Extended view with a landscape typical of the Hautes Corbières; the mountain of Tauch to the south, in the distance, the silhouettes of Quéribus and Peyrepertuse).

Step 5

At a small pass, leave the track sharply to the left to follow a pretty path in the undergrowth and reach Palairac. Go straight down to the village square (364 m) (In the center, a remarkable plane tree and chestnut tree).

Step 6

(Palairac: old medieval castrum, it was granted in the 123th century to the abbey of Lagrasse by Charles le Chauve; on the D XNUMX, the old church contains the Grail chapel.) From the square, go up to the right the Carreira de la Capelania, pass in front of the town hall and follow the small path bordered by a wooden ramp. Go along the fence to the left, then go up to the right in a pleasant undergrowth. The path winds over the valley. Ignore a path descending to the left, reach a small pass and fork to the left. At the bottom, cross the ford. Go up the stream to the left and climb a steep path.

Step 7

Fork on the second path on the right to cross the stream. A steep climb allows you to reach the Col de Couise (507 m).

Continue to the left (viewpoints on Mont Tauch and Canigou). After a curve to the left, descend to the right towards Tuchan. Walk through the thick woods. Join a track and reach the D 39 on the right at the Ferréol pass (428 m) and turn left. (2 possibilities at the Ferréol pass: - GR link from Ferréol pass to Borde-Grande via Maisons and Laroque de Fa, to find the GR 36 which continues towards Peyrepertuse or Mouthoumet. - GR 36 towards Mont Tauch, then Padern)

Step 9

Cross the D39 and take the direction of Maisons for 100 m. Go down to the right in the woods and go into the Gournet valley. Ignore a path on the right and come out on the D 123; follow it to the left and, after the stream, leave it on the right. Pass in front of the Gournet sheepfold. Cross the stream to the right to go up, then go back down to Maisons. Ignore the lake on the left, cross the ford and reach the entrance to Maisons (314 m).

Step 10

Enter the village on the left then follow the rue du Mont-Tauch towards Davejean. Continue on the D 410 for 900 m.

Step 11

After a small bridge, fork onto a path on the left, cross a ford and go up to the right. Leave a path on the right, then one on the left. Turning left, come out on the D 10 (600 m); descend to the left for 100 m.

Step 12

Take a right onto a wide forest track. Stay on the main road which dominates the valley where Dernacueillette nestles. Go past a pass and ignore a path on the left. Cross a Canadian crossing and arrive at a crossroads (555 m).

Step 13

From the plateau, turn left, then go straight ahead and left to go up along the ruins of Lacamp and continue. Ignore a path on the left and, 20 m after an electric line, enter the Coume Jonquière on the right. Cross a fence to go down to the right. Go through it again to follow it to the left. A steep climb and a fence passage leads to a crossroads. (300 m to the north, possibility of reaching the locality of the Right Stone (view: necropolis of La Clape: eight dolmens dating from the recent Neolithic).

Step 14

Ignore the Canadian passage to go down opposite, leaving a path on the right. Walk between green meadows and wooded hills. After 200 m, take a shortcut to the right. Finding the track, continue the descent. Continue straight ahead and ignore the ford to the right. Come out on the D 1610; Take it to the right as far as Laroque-de-Fa (455 m).

Be careful, the fire risk is often high, especially in summer, and can lead to flower bed closures. Find out before you go consulting the fire risk map for outdoor activities.
Fires strictly prohibited. Do not smoke and never throw cigarette butts in nature. Fires are numerous and catastrophic in our region. In the event of a fire or accident: give alert 18 or 112 from a cell phone.
Protect yourself from the sun and take enough water with you.
Avoid picking flowers and plants. Take all your trash. Close fences and keep dogs on a leash in pasture areas, villages and protected areas.

Mountain bike routes: the routes are often shared with hikers or other users (cars, tractors, etc.). Be careful and always anticipate that a pedestrian may be present around a bend to have time to brake if necessary. Pedestrians have priority in principle, slow down at crossings or stop if the configuration of the terrain requires you to do so.
