Step 1

(1) Go up in the direction of the ramparts of the castle and turn right then left on the ramparts path and continue on to the château path. Walk along the castle wall to the end. (1) Then descend the embankment, pass between 2 vines and start climbing the paved path, bordered by holm oaks and then pines. The rest takes place in the pine forest. Pay close attention to the markings, because the route follows a series of paths or shady paths which intersect with wider tracks.
2

Step 2

(2) Cross the track and go straight up a path through pines and scrubland. At the next track, turn right and climb up to a grove of cork oaks, survivors of the 1999 fire.
3

Step 3

The track begins to turn to the left. Pass the iron barrier and 20 m later, turn right on a path (gully) which goes down to the Saint Siméon chapel.
4

Step 4

(4) Take the uphill track to the right until the first big right-hand bend.
5

Step 5

Go straight on, on the balcony path, which offers beautiful views over the plain, Saint-André de Roquelongue, the castle of Ollieux, Montséret, the massif of Fontfroide.
6

Step 6

Halfway up, leave this path for another to the right which first goes up then down towards the track of the Ravin de la Coumbo Naurus. Go straight on the track. At the first bend, in the ravine, there is a flood water control dam. We also discover a point of view over the Lézignan plain. Further on, ignore the left uphill track and continue straight ahead.
7

Step 7

At the exit of the first bend, dive to the right on a path descending in the pines, along a rocky bar. Arrival on the track, in front of a ruined sheepfold in Boutenac sandstone. Take a right downhill.
8

Step 8

A few meters further down, plunge into the Garouille ravine on the left, walk along a dry stone wall and go up opposite to a path. Go straight along the vineyards, wasteland, old gardens bordered by low walls. Continue to descend towards the village.
9

Step 9

Then a last path bordered by holm oaks, between vineyards and wasteland (gullying) soon leads to the Chemin de la Pinède. Cross the village and reach the wash house via the rue de la Fontaine.

Be careful, the fire risk is often high, especially in summer, and can lead to flower bed closures. Find out before you go consulting the fire risk map for outdoor activities.
Fires strictly prohibited. Do not smoke and never throw cigarette butts in nature. Fires are numerous and catastrophic in our region. In the event of a fire or accident: give alert 18 or 112 from a cell phone.
Protect yourself from the sun and take enough water with you.
Avoid picking flowers and plants. Take all your trash. Close fences and keep dogs on a leash in pasture areas, villages and protected areas.

Mountain bike routes: the routes are often shared with hikers or other users (cars, tractors, etc.). Be careful and always anticipate that a pedestrian may be present around a bend to have time to brake if necessary. Pedestrians have priority in principle, slow down at crossings or stop if the configuration of the terrain requires you to do so.
Thank you and happy hiking!

April 2021. Nice corner, nice path, fires are less and less visible and so much the better, the chapel is superb in its case, perfectly marked path.

Nice hike with a nice view the whole way but we weren't in the shade at all.

I started by starting with the chemin du château, I took 1 hour 45 minutes to complete the loop, walking well and stopping for about 10 minutes in all. It goes up quite a bit at the start and then halfway through. For my part, the landscape is not very cheerful ... Quantity of dead trees on 3/4 of the course, probably due to a fire I suppose ... It is halfway, when I saw the chapel that I told myself that this walk was still worth a look! And after this, a beautiful view of the Cathar territory! Then nothing fancy. To do all the same despite a small downside.
